“Dada Se Main Yeh Umeed Nahi Kar Raha Tha”: Gurdeep Mehndi Addresses Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s Comments on Daler Mehndi During Live Concert!
Singer reiterates that #DalerMehndi has always believed in performing live, adding that “something’s plus-minus hota rehta hai”
Musician Gurdeep Mehndi took a moment during his recent stage concert to confront senior singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s public remarks regarding his father, bhangra icon Daler Mehndi. Addressing the crowd directly, a video clip shows Gurdeep reflecting on his disappointment while emphasizing the lifelong commitment to authentic live singing that his father instilled in him.
Speaking about Daler Mehndi’s approach to performing, Gurdeep shared that his father has always taught him to sing live and never rely on lip-syncing. Having grown up watching his father perform, Gurdeep said that live singing has always been an integral part of the Mehndi family’s musical ethos.
Taking Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s name, Gurdeep expressed his disappointment, saying, “Dada se main yeh umeed nahi kar raha tha ki woh aisa bolenge.” His remark reflected his surprise at the veteran singer’s statement, given the respect he holds for him.
Gurdeep also highlighted that live performances are not always perfect, with technical and performance-related variations being a part of the experience. Emphasising this, he said, “Something’s plus-minus hota rehta hai.”
The singer’s response comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding Daler Mehndi’s performance at a cultural event in Uttarakhand, where a minister questioned the singer’s performance and alleged that he was lip-syncing. The incident subsequently drew reactions from members of the music fraternity, including #AbhijeetBhattacharya.
Through his response, Gurdeep has highlighted the importance of live performance while expressing his disappointment over the remarks made about his father. The video has brought renewed attention to the ongoing discussion around live singing and the expectations surrounding artists on stage.
