As the world has turned materialistic, the importance of money is gaining importance throughout. The countries are trying to make more and more money because of the psychology of it’s controlling powers. So the money power is of utmost important to everyone. Even humans are seen accumulating and hoarding money thinking it’ll bring happiness. But is it true that money can buy happiness? The answer is No and due to greed to have money the social values are waning. In fact money is making humans miserable. Writer #ShahzadAhmad and director #VaradrajSwamy has focused on the human psychology of money in their film, ‘#KabaadTheCoin’. They have successfully depicted the conflict between money and social values. Kabad – The Coin is a movie based on the ‘Human Psychology’ of money and is meant to appease those who believe that money is everything, even above god.

Kabad – The Coin is a reality check for money minded people. A Kabaadiwala is the protagonist in the film. Bandhan (Vivaan Shah) is a bright student who secures 92% in his final graduation exams. He is the only son of his parents whereas his father deals in old disposable-reusable items (Bhangar) (भंगार) and his mother is a housewife. His father suffers a massive heart attack after suffering huge loss and dies instantly. Bandhan decides to continue his family business of Kabaadiwala. His move is supported by his childhood and college friend Savita (Yashashri Masurkar) who is fond of him too. She is aspiring to become an IAS officer but her cobbler father Mr Waghmare (Atul Srivastava) doesn’t have enough money to enrol her in a private tuition. In the meanwhile Bandhan stumbles upon a small bag which has historical coins. He gives one of them to Savita’s father who gets two lakhs for it from a local jeweller, which he uses for his daughter’s education.

Bandhan continues his daily chores as a Kabaadiwala and a smart young girl Roma (Zoya Afroz) calls him to her house to dispose of unwanted stuff. He helps her with other chores too and after finding out about his academics she decides to help him. For various jobs they meet and strike a chord of a friendship. But Bandhan confesses that he’s in love with her and she laughs it off. He assures her life of wealthy people and as a proof gifts her one of the coins. She with her boyfriend Sam (Abhishek Bajaj) come to know that the price of the coin is in crores. In fact Sam remembers that a city museum was looted wherein these coins were displayed. Both of them decide to con Bandhan and get hold of all the coins, thus becoming a millionaire overnight. He forces Roma to play with Bandhan’s emotions and extract all the coins. But destiny has other things in mind. What happens next is exciting and enjoyable.

Kabad – The Coin is a reasonably well written story wherein the screenplay should have been a bit tighter. The pace of the movie dips thus the viewers’ attention too dips. But the effort to underline the message is honest and the director gets good marks there. The hero is not a chocolate boy who does tricks like a Superman. He’s not even an anti-hero but a common man. Whether rich or poor, the emotions are same and this comes out truly in the film. The director has captured every character’s emotions thus helping the narrative of the film. Music is good and so is cinematography. Vivaan Shah fits the character and has given a good performance. Being a son of Naseeruddin and Ratna Pathak Shah, acting runs in his blood. Vivaan uses a lot of Aamir Khan (his favourite actor) mannerisms and importantly, doesn’t copy him blindly. Yashashri Masurkar has done a good job too. Zoya Afroz looks beautiful and screen looks more brighter when she’s on it. She has delivered a decent performance and Atul Srivastava, Abhishek Bajaj, Bhagwan Tiwari (Inspector) too are good.

The movie ‘Kabaad – The Coin’ has been released on the OTT platform ‘MX-Player’ which definitely is a one time watch.
