“I have learned by myself while watching tutorials on platforms such as #YouTube and by listening to some of the greatest artists”, says #Rii aka #RinaCharaniya.

Singer Rina Charaniya aka Rii says that there are so many budding musicians today but not all of them have their own style. She says that many of them are just trying to emulate other popular artists.

“Honestly there are artists who’ve been making authentic music and there are some trying to be like other artists. I prefer listening and following the journey of those who are true to their art and identity. I dislike those who try to be like Drake, Sidhu, Moose Wala or Beyoncé. I would wish that the industry is empowered by its local talent and not by copying the west. After all, we have some amazing success stories of musicians and singers doing really great worldwide. Artists that are identifying themselves to the west are, for me, not real artists by themselves,” she says.

Talking about her journey so far, she says, “My singing journey has been an emotional roller coaster ride. I had to forgive and forget a lot till now in order to stay positive but if I look at the bright side everything is ‘so good so far’. I have released a few beautiful songs like Judaa, Phir Mulaqaat, Baatein Uski Adha Chaand, Silly and a lot more music is planned to come out soon. I am very excited about that. I am looking at releasing a few songs this year and looking forward to some collaborations too.”

Talking about training, she says that she has been self-taught. “I didn’t have the privilege to take training at an early stage of my singing career. I have learned by myself while watching tutorials on platforms such as YouTube and by listening to some of the greatest artists. I have released two songs this year . One was Aadha Chaand, a music video, alongside the audio, romantic, soft track dedicated to an Indian Army family. The other song is called Silly. It’s a fun song made especially for the youth. This particular one got me more exposure than Aadha Chand. I was expecting a broader response from it however that helps me to understand what my actual audience wants to hear.”

She plans on coming out with some great, authentic music. “I guess a good classical instrument will always be authentic. The youth come up with some devices to create club music however this isn’t what I really aspire to do. I am currently working on my first album and that’s exciting for me. I am aware that the music industry isn’t easy to access but I want to believe that my music may make even if only a person per day happier than I won the battle. I am not specifically looking for anything other than beautiful songs, she says.
