NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

What attracted you to Bollywood?
Since my childhood I was passionate about becoming a model. After studying in Delhi and Dehra Dun, I shifted to Mumbai in January this year. My aim has always been to act in movies and TV serials, besides of course web series. I was very shy and till 12th standard I had a complex especially I was a fat Punjabi kudi. It was my parents who advised me to focus on what I wanted in life. Initially I wanted to be a designer but now I have only one focus and that is to get into acting, though I have modeled for over 200 products.

Do you believe in luck or talent to be an actress?
Getting a break is not tough at all. It depends on your talent as well as luck. You will get your break easily but your talent alone will lead you further.I have started meeting producers only now. In fact I am going for an audition next week.

What kind of roles do you want to do?
As an actress, I will be comfortable with whatever role that I am offered. Though the web series is the future I am trying my luck in films as well as TV serials.

“I want to do roles like the ones that Alia Bhatt did in Imtiaz Ali’s film Highway.”

Do you have inhibitions as an actress as far as exposing is concerned?
I do not have any inhibitions at all. I am ready to appear in a two piece bikini but only after I reach somewhere in the industry. Even Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra appeared in a two piece bikini only after they established themselves in the industry.

Do you want to be an actress or a star?
Daily 1000 girls come to Mumbai to become an actress but only one in thousand tastes success. Anyone can be a star with good looks and good contacts. I want to be a good actress like Vidya Balan and Sridevi. I know that I need to put in my 100% to be a power packed actress. I want to do roles like the ones that Alia Bhatt did in Imtiaz Ali’s film Highway I know that an actor should use his or her body as a tool but only in a positive way. I would not like to go nude to get into the skin of my character.

Do you believe that publicity stunts will help you get stardom?
I do not want to become popular via any publicity stunt because I feel that nothing will happen if you engineer publicity.I believe in the adage No struggle no success. If you ask me who my favorite actors in Bollywood, I’d say that Vidya Balan, Alia Bhatt, Sridevi and Kareena Kapoor are deserving actors. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Irrfan Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have always been my favorites. I met him when I went to HT Stylish awards.

Did you get any training in acting?
I have attended six workshops of Padmini Kolhapure. I learnt a lot like acting, dancing etc from Padmini Kolhapure. I learnt from the casting Director Bharat Jha, and Neeraj Kabi. I am now learning the craft from Manoj Bajpai and his wife Shabana at their classes.

What do you have to say about the casting couch?
I would not deny that the casting couch exists everywhere but big banners like those of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ekta Kapoor, Aditya Chopra etc seek only talent and do not indulge in hanky panky business. I have tackled advances by wolves’ in lamb’s clothes with tact but they did not put me off, because in our industry you cannot afford to hurt anyone’s ego.

What would be your reaction if you are called sexy?
If I am called sexy, I will be happy but no one calls me sexy. I am glad that everyone calls me cute.

What are your plus and minus points as an actress?
I am very focused on my work. It is in fact my biggest strength as an actress. I practice in front of my mirror. I’d day that my mirror is my best friend. No one is perfect as everyone has his or her own minus points. The more you practice the more you become perfect. My minus point is that I do not react but act. I used to be short tempered while I was in school. I trust anyone and everyone.
