The Kapil Sharma Show Reunites Original Cast who played the role of Lord Ram

Remember how exciting Sunday mornings used to be during childhood? For people born in the 80s and 90s, mornings were happy as it meant friends, family and neighbours coming together to watch Ramayan on Doordarshan.

It’s been 33 years since the show first aired. Feeling and nostalgic at the same time? We’re too.
To celebrate the occasion, the cast of the original show including Arun Govil, Deepika Chikhalia and Sunil Lahri, who played the role of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman respectively, came to the grace an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show.
The promo of the show was released recently, and it’s full of laughter and jokes.
In one of the segments, Kapil Sharma asks them all if they ever felt “Kabhi kabhi toh lagta hai apun hi bhagwan hai”. He took the reference from a dialogue mouthed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sacred Games.
In another one, Arun Govil, who is now 71, revealed that there was a point of time when he felt “itchy by just seeing the costumes.” Looks like the episode is going to be a roller coaster ride full of jokes and nostalgic moments.
Some time ago, Arun Govil had revealed that he didn’t get roles for 14 years. He said his career came to a standstill once the show got over because the producers didn’t want to cast him in any other role.
“For the last 14 years, I have not done anything, except maybe make a few special appearances,” he says.
“I had started my career as a Hindi film hero and post Ramayan, when I wanted to return to Bollywood, producers said, ‘Your image as Ram is so strong we cannot cast you as anyone else or give you a supporting role,” he told as per IANS.
Written, directed and produced by Ramanand Sagar, Ramayan had first aired on Doordarshan in 1987.
