Jack Ryan

Review: Jack Ryan Ghost War: A Perfect Serviceable Thriller!

The western spy movies have always fascinated Indian filmgoers. The super success of a recent Bollywood spy film is prompting comparisons with its western counterparts. The Indian spy agency is no less effective than those of other countries. A recent Amazon Prime spy movie, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, is relatable to local audiences since more spy stories are circulating on social media.

In Jack Ryan: Ghost War, a new conspiracy pulls Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) out of civilian life, courtesy of James Greer (Wendell Pierce), the Deputy Director of the CIA. While he is heading to Dubai for his Wall Street work, he agrees to meet a person suggested by Greer. He is accompanied by Mike November (Michael Kelly), a CIA contractor. Ryan uncovers a plot involving rogue MI6 agents and black ops as things go awry. The action oscillates between London and Dubai, which forms the crux of the story.

The plot is like many spy thrillers, but the tight screenplay keeps it interesting. The cinematography captures beauty, especially the night aerial shots and London’s vistas. The chase scenes in London are breathtakingly shot. John Krasinski delivers a polished performance and interprets the character’s psyche convincingly. Others lend solid and profound support.

Jack Ryan: Ghost War is a perfectly serviceable thriller.
