Florian Hurel on Monsoon Hair Care: Healthy Hair Holds a Style Far Better Than Over-Styled Hair!
Renowned celebrity hairstylist Florian Hurel believes that managing your hair during the monsoon isn’t about overloading it with treatments. Instead, the secret lies in selecting the appropriate products and applying them correctly and sparingly.
His frizz-control routine is built on preparation, not correction. He said, “I recommend a gentle hydrating shampoo, followed by a lightweight conditioner applied only through the lengths. After towel drying, use a leave-in conditioner or anti-frizz serum and always protect the hair before heat styling. A controlled blow-dry with the nozzle directed downward helps smooth the cuticle beautifully. Healthy, polished hair never comes from using more product, it comes from using the right product in the right quantity.”
On what to look for in products this season, Florian is specific. He said, “I look for formulations that support both scalp health and hair strength, ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol, ceramides, amino acids and lightweight hydrating agents. What I avoid are products that leave excessive residue because heavy buildup and humidity are never a good combination.”
Hair oiling, a ritual close to every Indian household, needs a monsoon adjustment. He said, “As an Indian, I completely understand the emotional connection we have with hair oiling. It’s a beautiful ritual, but timing matters. During the monsoon, leaving oil on the scalp overnight isn’t something I recommend because it can trap sweat and impurities. Instead, enjoy oiling as a pre-shampoo treatment for about 30 to 60 minutes. You still get the nourishment without compromising scalp health.”
For monsoon hairstyles, Florian prefers ease over effort. He said, “Soft braids, loose low buns and relaxed ponytails work beautifully because they protect the hair without creating unnecessary tension. Avoid tying wet hair into tight hairstyles, as that’s when it’s most fragile. Effortless elegance is always better than forcing perfection.”
Heat styling is where most people unknowingly cause the most damage. He said, “People often end up heat styling multiple times a day when their hairstyle doesn’t hold. That’s where the real damage happens. I always tell my celebrity clients, before long shooting days or red-carpet appearances, that healthy hair holds a style far better than over-styled hair. Use heat intelligently, always apply protection, and embrace styles that work with your natural texture instead of constantly fighting the weather.”
Florian closed with a thought that applies well beyond just the monsoon. He said, “Great hair isn’t about chasing perfection, it’s about understanding your hair and respecting it. Every season asks something different of us, and the monsoon is simply a reminder to focus on scalp health, hydration and consistency.”
